Defence Session Plan - Junior with The Rugby Site

This session plan is targeted for young players new to the game. A game has a unique playing structure - 15 players on each side but always behind the ball with set piece and unlimited phase play possible. This session will help young players learn to understand the concept of tracking an opposing player(s) within a team setup/system to safely stop them.

With junior players it is useful to start each session with some Catch and Pass activity. Get them running around using the ball. Rugby Netball is a good game before a defence session as it gets the players aware of tracking and moving marking players. Ben Herring explains the Rugby Netball game well in his Catch and Pass Games session.
