Course reviews

Wayne Smith is fantastic in breaking down the pass to its component parts and then helping players understand while it is important as he implements the skills into various drills. If you can’t pass you can’t play rugby!

Great training video – been practicing the passing with my son (U9’s) and will recommend this video to everyone!

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

Unfortunately we are at the end of our season but I plan to implement these drills next season. Great site,

USA

Thanx helped a lot !

Zimbabwe

Smithy did a great jo, I have started a Rugby team in florida and the kids finally get what we have been trying to get through to them. While the drills arent new they are well produced and Smithy explained in easy to understand terms and the kids love the explanations. Great job Rugby Site

USA

great vid. but as a person where english is not my first language i sometimes miss out on a few things. mainly to do with the accent. so maybe subtitles would do the trick?

Denmark

Very good video, simple and very effective training. The only problem we have spanish speakers is that we lose details of the teachings of Wayne by language. No possibility of subtitled videos?

Argentina

Good material that is relevant to me. I coach U10’s and we are trying to develop a continuity playing style, seeing how Wayne introduces individual skills is a game environment is impressive and can work for players of all abilities.

England

Thought this was wonderful, but the two main points that make this so are not just the drills but: the progression from isolated technical movements to more dynamic ones which employ those in ‘game related’ activities, and that Smith doesn’t simply deliver answers but uses open ended or leading (if need be) questions to get the boys to understand the concepts more fully.

Canada

Outstanding!

USA

Ray Williams used to say that the coaches job is to reduce complexities to simplicities and what a great job Wayne Smith does on that!

USA

comment capturer cette video ?

France

very good down to earth coach’ cant wait to go through this with my son :)

England

This is gold dust I have to say. I can see why Smith is one of the best attack coaches in the world

Ireland

Can’t wait to try this at practice and then at the game! It makes so much sense to strengthen the pass at speed, draw and support, pop pass, and most important enjoy the game with your new skills. Thanks Wayne Smith and The Rugby Site.

USA

Hi David, just wanted to check that you have been able to access the video alright? If you have any further issues please email me at support@therugbysite.com. ^Chloe

New Zealand

is it me or has anyone else had trouble getting this content to play?

Ireland

its simple things that really change the pace of the game, who better to teach this than Wayne Smith?

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

i learned a lot of great language to express certain concepts, and found the linking of exercises super useful. i bet the boys would take some time to digest the take away message which i think was just be a threat with the ball, or without and execute fundamentals. seems simple but is a real challenge! great video!

Canada

Great video, learn a lot from it!

Brazil

Excellent session, lots of good practical advice which can be used by every team. No complex drills. Good stuff!!!

India

excellent and simple passing techniques that can be taught to all age groups! also for the older boys the old draw and pass….running to draw the defender and the supporter running the straight lines….we all know we should coach it but this made it pretty easy for the players to see the best way of doing it! Nice One Smithy! Go The AB’S

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

great video and advice! Thanks!

Australia

Easy to see why Smithy is considered one of tho top coaches in the world!

Australia

One of the mosts dificult skills to teach is hands technique to spin the pass. I used the very first activitie with my new players last training and it really worked! Congratulations.

Spain

The thing that strikes me is how practical and simple the session is. Smith is economic with words so the explanations aren’t over complicated and the drills are clearly linked to game situations. As Smith says "If you don’t try it here (passing off a players ‘wrong’ foot’ for instance) then you’ll never try it in a game. Essential viewing for any Coach of young players who wants to help really develop their ability to run, catch and pass. Great stuff.

Arabian Gulf

The passing and support work was very good, especially the support lines as they aren’t taught very often. I also liked the way Smithy presented the session to the players. He kept it simple and progressed it according to their understanding.

Ireland

love it. I am a U9 coach and my son is excited to give it a go with his team. Thanks The Rugby Site. :-)

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

Excellent video showing progression from basics of passing technique to use in game situations. Good to see how Wayne Smith builds the session and engages the players.

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

Great video. Im a New Zealander and I havn’t seen this coaching before..haha. This should be taught from U/6’s, then by the time the kids reach this age group they will be masters of the draw, catch, pass and support skills & plays…obviously when dealing with younger kids you have to make it a bit more exciting coz all kids want to do is run with the ball not pass…haha

New Zealand

This is an excellent piece on the value of good passing technique, showing how and why you should be developing it. Good to hear that the All Blacks couldn’t pass well in 2004, it means we are only 7 years behind them!!

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

Excellent all round particularly in passing technique, keeping the ball alive and highlighting support play

Great Britain & Northern Ireland

This outing with Wayne Smith will contribute a great deal to this rugby team.

A great advantage to them – until their opponents look to develop the same ideas in a similarly efficient and economical way as Wayne guides here.
