As a player hoping to improve passive accuracy, Mikes concepts seems great butbin practice it doesnt seem to work in game.

My form doing this technique feels rigid , i cant get much distance on it either because if i try the ball get more air than a fightjet.

England

Useful but would like to see a bit more emphasis on the need to practise the basic technique off both hands and when graduating to walking/running, ensuring that the players rotate positions to give everyone an equal workout in both directions.

There is no mention of the pass coming from the hip. Players in my area have been taught the old pendulum form to pass and trying to get them to bend their elbows and push the ball from their core is one of the main issues I have. The very first drill actually shows both men using straight arm technique and, in my opinion, this is deceiving especially seeing as there is no mention of it. There is a drill which deals with this: partners stand side on to each other and rest the ball against the hip bone. They then push the ball to each other with the power hand and chase it, ending with the arm and hand facing their partner. Not only does this work on technique but it helps with triceps strengthening. As an aside; if you can train your players to use this technique when passing, their passing is more dynamic and doesn’t ‘telegraph’ the pass to opponents.

His message about quality and accurate passing being key to attack – in both versions of the game – cannot be understated. I fear this is suffering at international level – how many 6N centres are considered fine passers of the ball? :/ Ever since meeting Graham Henry at your Toronto session last year, I’ve made passing technique training a part of every session, demanding that the players hold themselves accountable for perfection. Also liked Mike Friday’s “take a picture of your pass” … used that with the lads last night and quite a few were noticeably more accurate having remembered that visual reminder to follow through with both hands to the target. Great module!
